My first bid request on RentACoder

RentACoder

I have been listending to my friends & internet marketers talk about how good using “RentACoder” service to outsource the writing. After my article directory launched on last month, I decided to give it a try and post my bidding request.

In fact, I did mention using RentACoder service in my previous blog post about “How to Start Your Online Career even You are Not Tech Savvy?“, if you haven’t read yet, I suggest you read it now to get more idea. Last month I managed to post up my first bid request in RentACoder. As usual, I study the help section on how to get your account verified, how to use the website and deal with the coders. It doesn’t really difficult after I tried it out, thank to Gobala who gave me some advice on how to deal with the coders and the payment part.

RentACoder Bidding summary

As I mentioned above, my first bidding job is to re-write some articles to promote my new site - TheBusinessResources.com. You can see the screen shots about my job details. The ‘red box’ represent the time the coder place the bid, the ‘green box’ shows where are the coders from and the ‘blue box’ is how much they bid for the job. It is just part of the full lists of bidding I got. The coders are very responsive and they are eager to take your job. After several round of communication, I shortlisted one coder with some negotiation (Yes, even your preferred coder charged higher price, you still can negotiate with them), and she is very responsive on my request and always prompt in reply my email.

RentACoder bidding details

My little tips to you if you want to use the RentACoder
1) Understand the command phrase use in RentACoder.
The basics one like what is bidder and coder, verification, max accepted bid, escrow amount and others. To simplify it in summary, I have wrote a note for your reference.
Bidder - Basically the person who initial the porject, in this case, I am a bidder
Coder - The persons who bid your job and become your potential writers, software devleopers
Verification - A process to verify yourself. Every bidder who want to award the coder a job, must verify themselves before proceed to the next phase of work.
Max Accepted bid - You can specify the maximum amount you will pay for the project
Escrow Amount - Sum of money that you need to pay in advance to RentACoder when you confirm the coder to work on your project. Don’t worry, this escrow amount is custody with RentACoder until you have satisfied with the job, then you can release the escrow amount to the coder. As long as you didn’t release the escrow amount, the coder can’t take your money and run away.

2) Verified your account as soon as possible.
RentACoder work on ratings system just like eBay.com, Lelong.com.my and any other sites. When your account is newly open, get your account go through the verification process. They are 3 types of verifications as below:

Type 1: Initial User Verification
Type 2: Preferred User Verification
Type 3: Miscellaneous Verification

I suggest you complete the type 1 & type 2 verification as it will give the confident to the bidders about your request is genuine and serious. There are many fraud cases happen as well where the bidder use other people credit card to pay for the service after they receive the job in order. The coders also worry about anyone who didn’t pay them after finish the works.

3) Write a simple, clear and easy to understand job of scope.
The more specific you wrote about your job of scope, the better you and coders understand about the job. Don’t forget to put down the deadline for your project and expect the coder complete the task within the timeframe given. This is very important for the bidding job as it will helps you get rid any unnecessary delay due to the facts that the coders dealing with few projects at the same time and slow down your project.

4) Choose the right category.
This is another important point which will determine your bidding price. If you put in the wrong category, you will end up paying more expensive. Go and study the category and the job bidding in each and every one category. Then, you will know where to place your advertisement.

5) Use the communication box.
A lot of time, the bidders (sometimes the coders as well) trying to skip the tools available in the RentACoder. This communication box will store all the correspondance messages in between the coder and bidder. Don’t ask for messeger ID and communicating outside the RentACoder. It may shorten your time and save some cost sometimes. However, if anythings screw up end of the day, RentACoder can’t help you on your dispute as they don’t know what was happened in between you and the coders and RentACoder will don’t have any reference to judge who’s right and wrong.

If they don’t finish in time or if you’re not satisfied, go straight for arbitration. Dont give them a chance, cos some of them will take advantage and if you “kesian” eventually you’ll be in trouble…
