The Circles of the Pa Kua Universe
Walking the circle of Pa Kua Chang one is able to create one’s own universe. This is a universe that is filled with wondrous beauty, and yet silent and solitary. The reason for for this amazement is to be found in the simplest of geometries–the circle.
One will find that endless circles loop into endless circles as they walk the circle. The circles just keep spiraling in and out of themselves until the martial artist is teleported into another universe. in pursuing this phenomena one will see that there are five specific circles to be pursued.
The first circle is obviously the circle that one is walking on. The power of this circle is from the rim of the circle, where one plants his feet, to the center of the circle. This tension, from rim to axle, set up a motor which endlessly pulls the practitioner in, even as he orbits out.
There is a circling of the legs as one walks. This is actually something of a wave form, and one imagines a point of power traveling up the legs and into the tan tien, down the legs and into the ground, and in endless succession. The tension here is found as the muscles expand and contract in rhythm musings.
The third circle is the circling of the torso. As one walks the torso is turned back and forth, step to step, move to move. The power here comes from the stretching of the muscles around the torso.
The fourth circle is the circling of the arms. The arms circle around and around, never ending, stretching the shoulder joints gently, and stretching all muscles attached to the shoulder. The tension here is the pulling of those muscles around the joint.
The circling of the hands is the fifth circle. The hands swoop and turn over again and again in never ending motion. It is a spiraling power that twines the muscles around the bones themselves that creates the power here.
If one walks the circle with attention raptly upon every detail, one need never look elsewhere for health and fitness. Everything is feeding everything…torso, limbs, hands…until there is no end. And if one merely persists in the exercise of walking the circle, one is taken to the realization that one is a marvelous creation, and their potential is infinite.
